Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, with a motive to encourage young minds to engage and take up research careers in science.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) and having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination immediately in the preceding academic year are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test.
Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. and have secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/ Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test.
Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of an undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. and have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII Standard Board Examination are eligible to appear for the Aptitude test. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship is awarded.
Application for KVPY
Here are the following steps to apply for KVPY
- Register online by visiting the official website.
- Enter your personal and academic details, choose the test Centre and upload your photo, signature, and other relevant certificates/documents.
- Pay the application fee only at the KVPY application portal. You can make the payment by using a Credit card/ Debit card/ Net Banking or also by downloading the e-challan.
Selection Procedure:
Aptitude Test
After scrutiny of the application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for a written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers on the First Sunday of November. The details are published on the KVPY website in the second week of October (Online only).
Interview
Based on the performance in the aptitude test, some students are short-listed to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. The merit list is based on 7.5% weightage for Aptitude Test marks and 25% weightage for the interview marks in all the streams.
