One of the many problems faced by the students today is anxiety around tests. When students are afraid and feel that they will not perform and excel in their examination is test anxiety.
Test anxiety is one of the vital problems for students at the at levels. Students frequently undergo tension that blocks up their learning and test-taking abilities to the level that affects their academic performance. Students might have prepared well for the test; however, cognitive anxiety gives rise to fear of failure or a wish to do extraordinarily good leading to a poor performance.
Components of Test Anxiety
Sarson&Sarson, 1990has stated three main components:
Cognitive: Students having test anxiety due to the absence of self-confidence. They are surrounded by negative emotions and feeling incapable of their ability to perform well in the exams
Affective: Test anxiety raises some physiological reactions like, fast heart beating, nausea, urination and raises perspiration, stretching of muscles, feeling thirsty, shivering, and cold hands.
Behavioral: Students take more time in assessing information or feel tired during a test because of their weak health or loss of appetite.
Here are some tips to be at ease with test anxiety

- Maintain a healthy diet.
- Listen to calming music
- Think and speak positively about yourself.
- Pray, and/or meditate to calm nerves
